More AFIT (1 of 2)

AFIT Versatility

AFIT may be used with digital and / or analogue systems, custom and semi-custom integrated circuits, micro-processor and support circuit based equipment.  The constraints are physical rather than electronic.  AFIT can be used in commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment quite effectively.  AFIT can be used to evaluate the Mean Time To Restore equipment, the Effectiveness of Built In Test (BIT) software and on assemblies tested on Automatic Test Equipment (ATE), to prove the fault coverage of the test system.  In addition, AFIT can be used to test the efficiency of Hardware.  Safety critical control systems are commonly dual or triple lane with voting.  AFIT can be used to test lane switching integrity, isolation and confirm system integrity.

BIT software is commonly hardware partitioned from the functional or operating system software.  AFIT can be used to test the integrity of the partition.  It can be used to train maintainers of equipment and to confirm that a systems auto-reconfigures to sustain its mission viability.

AFIT is quickly disabled by a transparent mode setting so that the assembly functional testing can be performed with AFIT in-situ to ensure no adverse affects on the subject assembly.

In the final analysis it can be used to verify that all equipment failure mitigation is compliant with the system requirements.
